Today I'm leaving to fly to Abu Dhabi. my flight leaves out of Cincinnati at noon, do I had plenty of time to enjoy my mornin walk and some breakfast. with the extra hour of not having to rush off to work, I talked my parents into te newly opened First Watch on Winchester Road. Newly opened? yuppie. 2.5 weeks ago. so much so, there were only two other customers, though we got there fifteen minutes after they opened for the day. After breakfast, it was off to Cincinnati to catch my flight and I ended up with an hour to steal, thanks to getting there three hours before my flight. To stale, we decided to see if we could find the Greyhound Tavern in Ft. Mitchell, Ky, a fancy restaurant my dad and I stumbled upon while exploring the Reds Baseball field. As that still left us with time, we headed to the airport, when my dad suggested checking out the Anderson Ferry and the Ohio River. Ya see where I get the random travelbug from? I only wish we had time to take the ferry across! Next trip, I guess. |
So I headed back to the tram to ride the train around in circles for a while, when I spoke with one of the guy at the terminal to find out what there was to do at the airport until my check-in counter opened. At his suggestion, I headed over to Terminal 1 to check out the food court. At least I could get some lunch. Had some sushi that wasn't much to write home about, then headed back over to Terminal 4 to stake out a place on the floor and read a book on my tablet.
Once I was checked in, it was off to security then four more hours sitting in the terminal waiting for my 10:40pm flight. Nothing like an 8 hour layover!
Flying Etihad Airlines was an experience that I would definitely do again. The flight attendants were very nice. The food was interesting, they served wonderful smelling curries for dinner, sandwich snacks on the over night flight, and breakfast in the morning. I tried to save the menu they gave us, but it never made it off the plane. I also got a nice blanket, pillow, and a small bag containing compression socks, sleep mask, and ear plugs! That's nothing like flying overseas on an American airline.
I arrived safely after my 14 hour flight in Abu Dhabi (8pm local) and met up with my friend Julie from graduate school, just in time for a quick dinner at her place before I passed out for the evening. The fun will have to be had tomorrow when I'm not jet-lagged as much.
