My wonderful family came to town for a really short weekend together. In their push to get me to eat, we went to First Watch. I ordered the Floridian French Toast, which is a sour dough French toast with wheat germ, banana, kiwi and berries. I haven't had something with wheat germ before, so that was very interesting and filling. I'm not sure if I'd get it again. I don't think the wheat germ is my thing.

This morning, we had breakfast at La Petite Creperie. I've had their crepes a couple of times before at the Lexington Farmer's Market and at the Wine and Vine in Nicholasville. When we arrived right before lunch, they place was packed, a good sign for good food! We went on into the house that its in and up to the counter in back to order. While we waited in line, we looked over the menu. There was enough variety of things to put on the crepe that even dad could come up with something he liked! I ordered a latte and a crepe with spinach, onions, cranberries, and turkey (a Lafayette). Mom order a similar crepe, with spinach, onions, mushrooms, and turkey, and a mimosa. Dad ordered a crepe with egg, bacon, and walnut. While we were waiting to pay, I sent dad out to find a table. The best he could do on this nice overcast day was a table out on the un-covered patio! Here's to hoping for no more rain! I asked dad to grab us some silverware from the patio. He came back with a little vase of flowers to decorate the table. Who knew he had it in him? The service was quick, given the number of people in front of us and we managed to eat without getting wet! Dad seemed pleased with the light meal, though he complained through out the day that he'd missed meal. Note that he didn't complain he was hungry, just that he wasn't going to get his three meals in for the day. I think I'll have to swing by here again and grab a quick breakfast soon. Oh, the joys of having family in town. We continued our meals out addiction with dinner at Ted's Montana Grill. Who can't go wrong with bison meat covered in everything, even the kitchen sink! It's true though, Ted's make bison burgers with all sorts of toppings you wouldn't expect. I love it because the meat is always juicey when cooked medium and pretty much melts in your mouth! I think it is one of my favorite places to eat and I have had two of my most favorite wines there, this Bison Ridge cabernet sauvignon and the Gascon Malbec. Ok, the Wild Horse pinot noir is super good too. I can't get over how smooth the Bison Ridge Cab is, little to no dry aftertaste and subtle fruit flavors. Oh so good! I did get the bottle and I did bring it home! I always feel like I should try different burgers at Ted's, however I end up getting the Canyon Creek, the Red Rock, or the Kitchen Sink, though I think the Canyon Creek is my absolute favorite. This is what I ordered this evening. At first, I wasn't sure about the egg on top of a burger, but it really works well mixed with the blueberry jam, cheddar cheese, and bacon. Nice crisp bacon. My mom had pecan-crusted trout and my dad ordered something... which I forgot. Plus, they were getting fed up with me taking pictures of food, so I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of what they had! Have you been to Ted's Montana Grill? What burger did you order?
I may have said this before, but Shakespeare and Company is weird for having not a large selection of Mediterranean food and being located all over the Middle East, with one location in the US, which happens to be in Lexington, KY. I'll admit, I don't get it, but that hasn't stopped me from eating there. We started off with an appetizer of Za'atar lambeh, a flat bread with strained yogurt and thyme and other spices. This particular one I found disappointing, as it was more a quesadilla than a flat bread. The flat breads I had in the UAE came more like hummus and pita, where you can dip it into the yogurt. The yogurt in this dish had the consistency of eggs or custard as well. For dinner, I ordered the quiona pasta, which used quiona formed into a noodle, covered in basil pesto, pine nuts, creme fraiche, and salmon. That's fennel on top as well! It was amazing! It had such a fresh flavor to it and tasted like pesto through out the whole noodle. The noodles seemed to just melt in your mouth! Mom ordered spaghetti bolognese, which she let me have a taste. The beef bolognese sauce was steady, though a completely traditional tasting spaghetti sauce. It wasn't hugely spectacular or unique.
