I cannot stay still. I cannot stay home. Since the weekend was going to have beautiful weather, I decided I'd go hiking. I mentioned this to my friend Minakshi, who happily volunteered to go too. We headed out on Saturday around 10am for the two hour drive down from Lexington. We arrived and stopped briefly in at the Visitor Center, as I wanted to pick up a more informative map for the trip. We then drove up to the parking lot for the Thomas Walker trail and took it over to Saddle of the Gap, where it meets up with the Wilderness Trail and crossed over into Virginia on the Wilderness Trail. Minakshi hadn't been to Virginia yet, so I made sure to point out when we crossed the state line. She couldn't get over how it didn't cost any money to change states and that you barely even noticed the difference! Ah, the wonders of growing up in the US versus anywhere else. |
After returning to the car, I drove us up to Pinnacle, where Minakshi could see the overlook into Virginia and Tennessee. The view was amazing. I don't think I've ever been up there when it hasn't been.
We then drove down to Cumberland Gap, Virginia to see if we could find where the Boone Trail parking lot was. Sometime I'll come back again and pick up the trail there and go farther into Virginia.
