Breakfast on the run, so glad that there are little snack shops at the Metro with wonderful croissants. They are not nearly as good as what can be gotten at a pastry shop, but still good. I'm glad we picked up breakfast on the way, as the line to enter the Louvre from the Metro and under the pyramid was already lengthy, 30 minutes before opening. |
Of course we made our rounds of the most famous items, the Winged Victory, Venus de Milo, and the Mona Lisa. Didn't forget to squeeze in a Michelangelo statue, The Slave, as well. This is just expected, right?
Then again, when would I experience such Art again in my life? Ok, you can't see much of the actual art, usually because you're getting elbowed out of the way by an Asian Tourist trying to take their picture in front of it and then move on to the next painting/sculpture and take their picture in front of that. "Excuse me?" Yea, not so much. "Oh, you were looking at that and enjoying the experience?" Again, no. "'I'm sorry, did I ruin your picture?" Doesn't exist in their vocabulary! And never mind the tour group, who will disrupt your path and your few to get 20 people and a tour guide around anything worth looking at. Stay out of their way if they are moving too! They don't care who they run down getting to the next stop.
So what was my favorite thing about the Louvre? Outside of just being there, I'd have to say I loved seeing Winged Victory, all of the statues of Athena (she's my favorite goddess, what can I say), and seeing the huge collection of Ancient Egyptian art. Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Medieval history, all my favorites. No wonder we spent the whole day there and didn't see anything else.
I'm glad it rained this day, it's an excuse to stay inside and look at the art of the Louvre.
Dinner after such an exciting day was completely lazy. We were going to stop at the Metro's snack stand and got some croissants, but Julie talked me into thinking the paterssarie would be opend still. I shouldn't have listened. Instead, we stopped at the Chocolatier, Jeff de Bruges , and enjoyed a wonderful strawberry sherbet.
My Review of Places I've Seen
“Lots of art and sculptures to see”
After walking all day, there still wasn't enough time to view everything before tiring out. Even the break for lunch didn't give us enough energy to see everything there to be seen. Finding a moment to be alone and enjoy the Art for that it is is hard with the crowds, but venture off the beaten path to enjoy just as amazing works.
