Easter isn't a big deal to me. I generally stopped celebrating a long time ago, however, I do enjoy getting out into the sunshine and enjoy nature on a beautiful day and if one is inclined to think that it is celebrating the wonder of the rebirth, than so be it. So today, we went out to the Lexington Farmer's Market on Southland Drive to check out the wares. I know its early in the season, so I wasn't expecting much in fresh produce, however, I was hoping to get some cheaper and local transplants. I ended up with some thai basil and thyme to plant and some arugula and romaine to eat. Lunch today was at Malone's or... Harry's Patio. It's a complicated restaurant building made up of three restaurants in one: Malones steakhouse, Aqua sushi, and Harry's patio. We like sitting out on the Patio (Harry's), but I almost always order some kind of salmon off the Malone's menu. It's always good. Very solid taste of grilled salmon, nothing on it other than a squeeze of lemon juice to-tastes. The salad and bread is "bottom-less" so I had salad instead of an actual side dish. I have a love of anywhere that let's me eat all the freshly baked bread I want! | As we had taken Jake with us to the Farmer's Market, we decided to stop at the UK Arboretum on our way home. It's got some wonderful walking paths through what they describe as "Walk Across Kentucky" themes planting areas. While we didn't make the 2-mile walk on all the paths, we did manage to walk though the Cumberland Mountains, Appalachian Plateau, Pennyrile, and the Knob. We enjoyed a nice 1.38 mile walk. Could have been longer, but Jake was getting hot and tired. He's a spoilt dog, what can I say? We did at least have a good laugh at the Texas Longhorn fan of a log that was laying on its side over in the "Cumberland Mountains" area. After lunch, it's to the store for dinner supplies and to pick up some herbs. I ended up getting some chives and brussel sprouts. I've never grown brussel sprouts, so this will be interesting. I went ahead and planted the brussel sprouts into my raised garden and watered everything good, so we will see. |
Places I've Seen
Free arboretum for those who enjoy walking or jogging in a garden area. While not very wooded like an arboretum would imply, the facility is clean with paved paths. Sun is mandatory on these paths, so bring and wear sunscreen. The Arboretum is themed as a "Walk Across Kentucky" which highlights regional flora, but also what makes these regions important to the Kentucky economy.
