Being that Indy is a big city, there is stuff to do. I just had to keep in mind that I had 3 hours from after checking out to when I'd get charged another day for valet parking. So, I ended up checking my email and doing a little work while mooching free WiFi in the lobby until I checked out, then went to walk around the Capital Building.
I'm not sure at all why they had a statue of George Washington at the side of the Capital Building. Usually statues at capitals have an obvious relation to the capital, some famous state or location founder, someone who was a great politician, a war hero... Not that I'm saying George Washington isn't any of those things, but he's generally not associated with Indiana. And as it is Sunday, it's hard to go inside and see if there is any additional information on that point.
The capital building exterior is like many of the others I've seen. Not overly exciting and generally smaller than you'd think. It was also squeezed in the city, unlike the OKC and Kentucky capital, which has a lot of nice lawns. Then still having time on my hands, I decided to go down to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and see if I could really take an elevator to the top. It's not that I'm lazy, I've done monuments where I've had to climb over 300 steps to the top but today it was pushing 90 degrees and well, monuments aren't generally air-conditioned. Crossing the traffic circle to get out to the monument was fun. At least the Colts were playing at home and the cars were generally stopped. Otherwise, there wasn't much of a cross-walk or traffic light to get some assistance to cross over. At least it was only $2 to take the elevator. Not bad at all! The trip to the top was fun, though more fun when the doors opened and there were two ladies waiting to get on. Man, it was a little tight! The view was pretty cool. I guess because I like going up high and looking down on the city. It's definitely not spectacular like Paris, or Seattle or Boston, but it's still a nice view of the city-scape. It's a shame I didn't plan on site-seeing this much, or else I would have brought more than my cell phone to take pictures. | Still having time to spare, I went over to the City Centre Mall and looked around. Grabbed a nice glass of Teavana and some gift buying. :-) a little bit of Teavana Not to be out done, but I took a nice trip to Fry's Electronics to see if I could find anything I'd like. I just kept thinking I should simply hire some local guy to see if they can fix my massive cord problem for my home electronics before I spend too much on it and not get surround sound stereo back. |
