After enjoying Champagne from the large producer of Moet and Chandon and tasting different varietals of Champagne, we traveled to Ludes to visit family-owned business Hure Freres (Brothers Hure). We were shown to the cellars by the son of one of the original brothers. The small producers make wonderful Champagne with grapes harvested from within Lodes. The tour of their facility included getting to see their grape press. We were visiting during the off-season, so their large press wasn't in use, however, they did have a smaller one set up still. |
For a tasting, we enjoyed some of their Brut and Rose at nice wooden country table. One of our group companions bought an additional bottle which he happily shared with the table, the Terre Natale. It was so wonderful, I bought a bought to bring back with us. Julie at this point had had her fill, so I was enjoying glasses for 2. I think by the end of the day I ended up having enjoyed 10 glasses of Champagne! I was so glad that I didn't have to drive back to Paris myself. I did however enjoy a nice nap on the drive back to the hotel.
