Since we all know that we'd get bored if all I did was turn this into a blog about what I get from Plated, I decided to combine a bunch of posts together (ok, and well, I'm behind) and make one big post highlighting the plates I've made.

I succumbed to an ad on Facebook. I kept seeing an add "Liked" by a friend of mine from undergrad for a food and recipe delivery business, Plated.com. Their idea was to mail people fresh food and recipes so they can try to cook foods they wouldn't normally with the convience of not having to purchase so many ingredients they wouldn't be able to use up. I liked the idea, because I hate going to the grocery store with a passion! The people! The lines! Having to hunt for what your looking for, load, unload, load and unload your basket! And it always takes way longer than it should! Bleh! What would I not like about FedEx bringing me everything I need to fix for dinner and it arriving right when FedEx said it would? Sign me up! My first box contained two recipes, Apple Cider Pork Burgers with Shaved Brussels Spouts Salad and Saag Paneer with Garlic Naan. I chose these two because I love Indian food and love pork chops but never buy them when I go to the grocery store. The recipes turned out great, so I decided to continue receiving boxes every week and trying different recipes. Saag Paneer with Garlic NaanApple Cider Pork Burgers and Shaved Brussels Sprouts SaladToday's recipe experiment comes yet again from Pinterest. This time, from The Kitchn's Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala. The recipe was easy to follow and I managed to get myself a coupon for two quarts of coconut milk at Meijer's. I prepared all the ingredients the night before and filled up my Crock Pot. I pulled it out before I left for work at 7:20 am and plugged her in. Sadly, I didn't get home until nearly 6pm and my Crock Pot doesn't have an autowarm feature, so it continued to cook for more than 10 hours! blah! Everything tasted burnt! At that point, it didn't even taste good. I ended up eating a a little and throwing the rest out. I need to invest in a new slow cooker. A friend of mine from work suggested I use my Christmas tree lights timer on it and set it to turn off after 8 hours. She seemed to think that the food would stay warm enough that I wouldn't need to worry about it. I'll have to give this one another try.
The Philharmonic's second performance of the year was held at the Lexington Opera house. I hadn't been there before and was amazed at how small the venue was. It was tiny! But it was also set up like a traditional opera house, with a small floor area, over-looking box seats, then some high up cheap seats. It's cute in its old world style. When you come, leave your fear of heights at home, because the seating is steep and the drop-off is fast. Erioca is a hard-core piece for Classical Music lovers. It's long. It's repetitive. It's long. It does have some passionate phrases, however, you have to force through all 47 minutes of the piece to enjoy them.
Icarus was a new piece, pared with a movie. I wasn't impressed by it. I didn't like the movie filmed only in silver and blues. My other major take-away from it is that Space always sounds the same. It seems that composers all like to musically describe outer space using the same general themes. Listen to Star Wars, Star Trek, this piece, and any other movie or tv show about space. When the characters travel into outer space, the music goes through the same theme! Geez, pick a new theme! I'm not a huge fan of the story line either and some of the science. But whatev's. I just didn't like it. Get over it. After the performance we had dinner at Nick Ryan's. I had been there a while back, but hadn't been for dinner. I was excited, as the place outside smelled amazing. I had the grilled pork chops with gouda grits, cranberry-apple chutney, honey-butter sauce and vegetables. It was super wonderful. The pock chop was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The gouda grits takes more like mashed potatoes than grits. I must have been hungry, because even the green beans tasted good. Ok, I was hungry. It was 10pm and I hadn't eaten since lunch! Definitely worth going to! Pinterest strikes again! Tonight it is to use some of my home-grown zucchini that I had frozen during the summer to create a yummy snack. I started my evening with something simple. I had a banana that was about to go bad that I didn't want to throw away, so I pulled out my trusty copy of Better Home and Garden's cookbook and baked some wonderful banana bread. But that's not exciting. It looked and smelled wonderful though! Smell the banana bread!
