Nothing will keep you busy and off the street like a week at a conference. Well, not exactly off the street, as we manage to have a lot of fun in between 5 days worth of chem ed talks! I won't bore everyone with the details of the talks, though I did go to sessions on training teaching assistants to teach guided inquiry, issues related to teaching and learning in the general chemistry labs, outreach, GOB textbooks, and providing general teaching assistant orientation. |
I also went out one night to Mully's Bar and Grill to enjoy some Founders IPA. We drank long enough that evening that the waitress came out to say the keg was empty and they didn't have anymore! She promised us though that we had help drinking it down by people inside the bar. As we were sitting out on the patio all evening, I kept swatting bugs off my leg. By morning, my legs looked like I had the 'pox! I generally don't go for IPA's as they are to hoppy, this one however wasn't overly hoppy and was very smooth.
I can't forget to mention the Bartertown Diner that I blogged about the other day as well. It's a vegan diner that is in downtown Grand Rapids. You can read all about that experience in the blog post.
On the drive back to Lexington, we stopped at Weber's Grill in downtown Indianapolis. I'll have to say, when we figured out that we were only an hour drive from Indianapolis at noon, we hands down voted for Weber's. You can't go wrong with grilled food. That is, unless you have a vegetarian in the group, which we did. Don't worry though, Weber's does offer some grilled veggie options. I however had my heart sat on a pork chop, which was not on the lunch menu. The waitress was great though and brought out a dinner menu so I could select my pork chop. :-) Bone-In Smoked Pork Chop with a honey mustard glaze, sauteed spinach (which was still unbelievably green!), whipped sweet potatoes. It was grilled perfection. Meat coma ensued and I slept most of the drive back to Lexington.
