At least something finally went right. I was able to easily get to Newark and make my connection to Charles de Gaulle, even if it wasn't the original plan. Hopefully now something will go right with this trip.

My flight out of Lexington arrived in Chicago 15 minutes after my connecting flight to Germany left. It is so frustrating to have barely missed it, knowing if we hadn't sat around so long, I could have made it. My phone already had a call from United saying they had booked me on the next flight to Germany, leaving at the same time on Saturday, the same day I was supposed to be enjoying a tour of a castle in Heidelberg, Germany.
After standing in line at the Customer Service desk, I was able to book a flight from Chicago to Newark, to Charles de Gualle... At least I wouldn't hold Julie up in Germany. However, she didn't have the train tickets. Which is bad, as apparently EuroRail doesn't refund tickets less than 3 days in advance of the trip AND you have to have mailed them back your tickets! They couldn't even print her one to use as we had already paid for them! So, yea, they are on my short list... I'm thinking... don't buy tickets from EuroRail in the future. United also didn't pay for my hotel in Chicago, as the delay was weather related. They did at least give me a number to reserve a half-way sketchy hotel room by the airport at a discounted rate. Nothing is better than booking a room at a hotel you know nothing about and then calling to have their shuttle pick you up and standing around asking people if they are your driver. I went to bed super frustrated. My trip began with a simple flight from LEX to Chicago O'Hare (ORD) with a connection to Frankfurt, Germany. The plan? A day in Germany site-seeing, then the train to Paris. It was simple. The train tickets were even booked.
The problem? My plane was stuck in Cleveland and didn't get to Chicago before coming to Lexington. We finally boarded my flight almost 1.5 hours late. Then sat around waiting for "directions" to Chicago for another 30 minutes. My 2.5 hour layover was gone. Ah, I hate O'Hare! |
